Larry Skolnick has been in the field of Jewish Communal Service for almost 25 years and has been serving as the President/CEO of the Memphis Jewish Community Center for the past 5 years. He is passionate about quality Jewish experiences and programming and has worked hard during his tenure in Memphis to stress the “J” in JCC throughout all program areas. Professionally he strives to create unique Jewish experiences for all age demographics, foster connections to Judaism for the next generation, and develop/mentor strong current and future Jewish communal professionals.
Before his tenure in Memphis, Larry served as CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dayton for 8 years. As this was a “functional federation”, he also oversaw the Dayton Jewish Community Center, Dayton Area Jewish Senior Service Agency, and a Jewish skilled care facility. Prior to his position in Dayton, Larry served as the Associate Executive Director for the JCC of the Greater Palm Beaches for 5 years; the Program Director for the Arnstein JCC in Knoxville, TN; and began his career working in residential camping programs. Larry received his Master of Science in Recreation from Indiana University with a concentration in residential camping and environmental/outdoor experiential education, and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan.
Larry is passionate about social justice, equality and diversity initiatives, and is proud to serve on the Federal Bureau of Investigations Muli-Cultural Advisory Committee for the Memphis Field Office; the City of Memphis Multi-Cultural Advisory Council; and the Hutchison School External Inclusion Committee.
Larry recently married his husband Josh and he is the proud father of his amazing 15 year old daughter Sophie! In his free time he enjoys outdoor recreational opportunities, fitness, and travel.
