Alan Semel, Board Chair, Mandel Jewish Community Center of Cleveland, Beachwood, Ohio, USA


Alan is a native of Elmira, New York and has assumed Jewish community leadership positions since his college years when he served as the National UJA University Division Chair. Subsequently, he became chair of the Ithaca Jewish Welfare Fund campaign. After moving to Cleveland, he became Board chair of Cleveland Hillel and has served on the Jewish Federation Human Resource Development Committee, Super Sunday Co-Chair and Co-chair of Super Sunday volunteer training. At the Mandel JCC, Alan has served as Chair of the Camp Wise Committee. During his tenure in this position, a strategic plan was created that guided the camp through a period of growth and expansion. Alan served as chair of a Board task force on Fundraising and Development. This Task Force created a multi-

year development plan with goals for increased fundraising that were achieved over the past 3 years. Alan assumed the Board chair position of the Mandel JCC in 2015. Under his leadership a multi-year strategic plan was recently completed that sets organizational priorities and it will serve as a road-map for the Mandel JCC over the next 3 years. Alan is a sales executive for a company that that develops IT systems that support sales in retail stores and businesses.
