Michael Hyman’s career has been dedicated to Jewish Community Center work since completing his graduate school studies at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University in New York City. He served as a senior adult program supervisor at the JCC of Metropolitan New Jersey for three years following completion of graduate school studies. In 1977 he became the summer camp shaliach program coordinator at the Jewish Agency New York office. He left that position in 1981 to become the overnight camp director of the Jewish Community Center in Buffalo New York where he later assumed the positions of Associate Executive Director and Executive Director. Following 22 years on the staff at the JCC in Buffalo, he became the Executive Director/CEO of the Mandel JCC in Cleveland Ohio.
Under his leadership as the CEO of the Mandel JCC, the organization has succeeded in fulfilling its mission of community building with an emphasis on growing early childhood, summer camp (day and overnight), Jewish arts and culture, Jewish life and learning and fitness/recreation programs. Today, the Mandel JCC successfully engages a broad cross-section of the Cleveland Jewish community, working in partnership with the Jewish Federation, synagogues and other organizations of the Cleveland Jewish community.
